PS5 Overheating & Shutting Down After Long Gaming Sessions – Fixed in Brisbane

A PlayStation 5 was brought into our workshop after the customer experienced repeated overheating and sudden shutdowns during gameplay. The console would run normally at first but shut down after one to two hours of use, especially while gaming.

What Causes PS5 Overheating?

Over time, dust builds up inside the console and restricts airflow. When airflow is reduced, heat becomes trapped inside the system. As temperatures rise, the PS5’s safety system forces the console to shut down to prevent permanent damage.

Internal Inspection & Findings

After opening the console, we found heavy internal dust buildup around the cooling system. The fan, airflow channels, and heatsink were all affected. This prevented heat from being expelled properly and caused the console to overheat during extended gaming sessions.

In addition, the processor cooling surface had degraded over time, reducing heat transfer efficiency.

• Careful reassembly and testing

Final Testing & Result

After reassembly, the PS5 was tested under extended use. The console ran smoothly without overheating or shutting down. Performance remained stable even after long gaming sessions.

The issue was fully resolved.
